So many people are distracted by the holidays that they wouldn’t think of having time to look for a home… or do they? A lot of agents out there hang up their business for the holidays in anticipation that inventory will dwindle and purchases slow down to concentrate on the busyness of the holiday season upon us. They are not seeking buyers and sellers as regularly as during the rest of the year. Many buyers and sellers will assume the same thing and either remove their home from the market or wait until after the holiday to buy a new home. I say this isn’t always the best choice.
In 15 years of real estate, I would have to say that this is the best time to buy or sell a home. I closed 8 homes in December of last year a time when you would think my productivity would have lessened.
What is the advantage of taking advantage of the holiday season? If you are a buyer, other buyers are not shopping as much so you have more to pick from with less competition, if you are a seller you have the opportunity to take advantage of the buyer’s that are truly serious about buying right now and if they find exactly what they are looking for may pay closer to your list price to get what they want. Homes are festive and decorated and give that “homey” feeling that so many buyers are looking for, not only from curb appeal but the interior coziness of the holiday decorations. This is a true feeling of making another person feel at “home.”
